YOGA SOLUTIONS FOR A RADIANT HEART: A Healthy Movement Seminar on Saturday, February 13, 1 – 4 pm in Kealakekua
Do you know your physical heart space? Just as you can practice heart opening in your thoughts and emotions, yoga tells us we can also open the radiant heart space through precise awareness and blissful movement and stillness in the physical body.
Opening the heart through gentle backbends, twists and forward bends encourages more joy in all kinds of relationships: with caring friends and family members, significant others, pets, teachers and mentors, and with our own students and children.
Strengthening and rejuvenating, heart-focused yoga helps us stay calm in challenging situations, such as in relationships with difficult people or those with whom we disagree philosophically or politically. As we visualize and practice opening our heart in various relationships, we’re learning ahimsa, or compassion, which is the first way yoga teaches us about love.
The five ways yoga teaches us about love are also a prescription for happiness. They are embodied in the Tree of Yoga as the yamas – non-harming, honesty, non-stealing, moderation and non-grasping — provided by sages and teachers of old as restraints that lead to alignment, wisdom and self-realization.
