Yoga Pearl | Never Give Up...Always Let Go
Yoga Pearls | Never give up! Always let go!
Younger yogis tend to want the exercise without the dogma. They want the regimen of body postures, breathing exercises, and the study of the human nervous system alone. There is deep wisdom in knowing the science of the body. Look at what Leonardo DaVinci, BKS Iyengar and Lady Gaga have done with their understandings of the body.
Still, elder yogis seem to roll their eyes at the modern trend toward a highly physicalized yoga, saying it has spawned studios and methods where teachers lack the deeper training and life experience necessary to teach yoga well and help students thrive while preventing injury.
Yet there are many ways up the mountain, but only one mountain, and at the top is Self-Realization. Yogis are students of Self-Realization, which comes through meditation and study of the aphorisms that constitute the Yoga Sutras and daily practices to cleanse the body and mind, and devotional arts – culinary, visual and dance arts — to balance the body, emotions and mind and vitalize the spirit, bringing forth the sweetness of life.
Once held as a deep secret among the spiritually elite and quietly practiced among those willing to undergo specific training, the ancient practice of yoga has become a huge $27 billion industry with a 282 percent growth rate over the past 10 years. Although traditional elders steeped in yoga’s indigenous roots may cringe at the idea, yoga has become America’s fastest growing “sport.”
Perhaps the ancestors love the idea that yoga practices, finally, are being rediscovered as a pro-biotic salve for what ails modern society. The art and science of yoga comes to this: tranquility of body and temperament and good will toward others, two actions that really matter.
Planting love in the field of life: what does it look like for you?
Focusing on the positive: There is a commonly known principle of focusing on positive attitudes, interpretations, actions and thoughts about situations in life, while allowing the negative to gradually wash away. This focus on the positive is one of the practical applications of the principle of one-pointedness. Staying focused on optimal balance and creativity leads to wholeness and transcends the more external levels of our being while at the same time energizing and guiding us.
