THE ART OF TIME
Aloha, Noble Friends!
I write today as the first Full Moon of the New Year is peaking in the evening sky. It’s known in indigenous lore as the Wolf Moon, and I honor the blazing white globe of beauty tonight as part of my renewed commitment to Natural Time in the new year.
As we turn the calendar page, let’s look at the familiar instrument we use to count the days and years. Even though the calendar itself is somewhat arbitrary, most of humanity now uses the “Gregorian” calendar system, which shapes us personally and as a planet by placing artificial ideas on the principles of Nature.
Calendars affect our minds: calendars are the central instruments of cultural programs and it’s vital that we understand how they shape our society.
The Gregorian calendar became the world standard in 1582. Before that, many indigenous cultures had solar calendars, lunar calendars, galactic calendars and other ways of tracking the movements of time, the seasons and nature. These maps of time connected people to their sacred relationship to time, reminding everyone of the unity of all life. The microcosm of the individual was related to the macrocosm of the Natural Universe.
Today, our sense of time is largely divorced from a connection to Nature’s cycles. Counting time according to the artificial and disorderly rhythm of the Gregorian calendar has worsened our alienation from Nature and we have largely lost touch with this sacred dimension of time.
Consider this: The Gregorian Calendar is derived from early calendars of Caesar and the Roman Empire as well as the Catholic Pope Gregory the 13th. Unlike lunar and galactic calendars composed by the Mayans and sidereal calendars used in India since ancient times, the mathematical structure of the 12-month calendar does not accurately reflect nature’s harmony. Erratically numbered 28, 29, 30, 31-day months that celebrate irregularity are confusing and abnormal. A Full Moon cycle is 28 days. Cutting ourselves off from the potency of natural cycles by using artificial time feeds the collective self-destructive trend which humanity seems intent upon.
Where does the Gregorian Calendar come from? What historical programs might be transmitted through it? Is this the best calendar for our keeping time in our world? Is our relationship to time helping us to awaken our full potential? Or is it reinforcing our enmeshment in a military-industrial complex that wants us to identify ourselves as workers and consumers rather than wise creators. If we’re full-time focused on hourly wages, shopping, and paying our bills, we lose our connection to Nature, which, together with unconditional love, is the best real hope for humanity to thrive in the coming times.
The solution? Be inspired by the ancient energies of renewal and rebirth by aligning with the cycles of Natural Time. Commit to being reborn every day of the year!
Do what’s natural: wake up with the sun, eat your largest meal at mid-day when the sun at its peak, slow down at sunset. Small changes like simply timing your day to the natural movement of the sun can produce big results.
Take the steps to create daily rituals that connect you more deeply to your True Nature. Live a life that supports and uplifts you, one that includes meditation, yoga and healthy relationships. Cut yourself off from relationships, connections, and involvement with anyone or anything that is working against your optimum health and well-being. It’s not worth draining your natural energy on false time maps, false beliefs or false relationships, even though they may seem familiar. This is a good time to cut the cords that tie you to unhealthy relationships and re-center in the power, mystery and natural flow of your own Highest Self.
Using the imagination, our dreaming capacities, we are re-imagineering the world, a society of harmony and creative good will. This month’s Wolf Moon celebrates the totem of the Wolf, an expression of strength, commitment to the family/pack, and the courage to act on behalf of what is noble and good. Even the Lone Wolf exists for the good of the pack, keeping an eye out for threats, scouting out new pathways, scouring out-of-the-way spots for new food, shelter and knowledge.
Through the risks we take now to be reborn in every day and align with the principles of nature, we prove our courage and discover new ways to improve lives and create a better world.
What is possible for humanity as we enter the Quantum Era, align with Natural Time and drop our loyalty to artificial time while restoring our sensitivities to Nature and each other? Nature’s cycles are calling us back into harmony, out of our deep sleep of separation, fear, ignorance and greed. We wake up so we can connect more completely with the Whole.
