Thai Yogassage: Awaken Your Body Wisdom
How do you grow wisdom and joy?
Join us for the Thai Yogassage Seminar on Dec. 16, 2017.
Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is a therapeutic bodywork technique which was developed more than 2,500 years ago by Jivaka Komarabhacca, a friend and physician to the Sangha of the Buddha. When Buddhist monks and nuns migrated from India to Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, and Thailand, they brought this bodywork knowledge with them and Jivaka became renowned as a healer.
Traditional Thai medicine is a natural, holistic approach to health and well-being, developed over thousands of years. It includes good nutrition, physical exercise, the use of medicinal herbs, and therapeutic bodywork. Its concern for curing diseases and ailments while maintaining health and well-being continued as Thai Yoga developed over many generations and has come to be known as the ancient wisdom of Thailand.
This bodywork was performed in temples and regarded as a spiritual practice. In offering a massage, the giver cultivates the four divine states, or brahma viharas, of Buddhist practice: metta (lovingkindness), karuna (compassion), mudita (sympathetic joy), and uppekha (equanimity). In this way, a Thai massage becomes both a meditation and an offering of sublime kindness. Bringing this spirit to a Yogassage session makes it truly healing for both giver and receiver.
The theory of Thai massage is based on the belief that prana (life energy) flows through the body along a network of channels (similar to the nadis in Ayurveda or meridians in Chinese medicine) and that stimulating and balancing prana creates a deep feeling of relaxation, vitality, and renewal.
Thai Yoga Massage bridges body and mind back into harmony so your natural life energy flows freely. You have new strength to face any challenge with less stress, more insight, and just the right touch, which is the light touch.
For this the third in a four-part Yogassage series, please bring a yoga mat, a journal, and a closed water bottle. You do not need to attend Seminars 1 or 2 to take this session.
The movements and adjustments you will learn in the Yogassage Seminar are a valuable complement in Yoga teaching, for use with friends, or in expanding your knowledge of Yoga, Massage, and Meditation. All levels welcome!
