Bucky & the World Game | Best Dreams

Aloha, Friends!

What is your best dream for the world?

Remember the World Game that Buckminster Fuller envisioned back in the 1980s? The Earth would be a dymaxion playroom where people came, competed, and cooperated, to: “Make the world work, for 100% of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, without ecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone.”

What would the 21st Century version of Bucky’s World Game be, considering how people in the US throw away 40% of our food and the richest 1 percent globally bagged 82 percent of wealth created last year, while the poorest half of humanity got nothing?

How do we right the “Spaceship Earth,” the unit of analysis he used in thinking of the dynamic+maximum+tension, or dymaxion solutions that would give “maximum gain of advantage from minimal energy input.” Bucky figured we have all the resources we need to feed, clothe, house, and educate everyone.

Onboard one Spaceship, he said, the illogic of 200 nation state admirals and corporations all trying to steer in different directions at once, create madness and multiple “blood clots” in the world’s global metabolism.

Instead of having a planetary stroke, I think we should all step back and take a deep breath and figure out who we are and why it’s important to share compassionately.
