ArtWavEs Nourish the Children
Food, Eco-Arts and AWEsome Education
For “CHAMPIONS WHO PLAY IT FORWARD”
What inspired me to start volunteering with Feed the Children was a tragedy that occurred when my 20-year-old brother took his own life 43 years ago. I searched the globe for solutions to his despair, earning a Ph. D. in Creative Arts, working professionally as a Performer, Wellness Coach & Speaker, & teaching Yoga to thousands of people who learned to turn confusion into clarity, strength and joy.
We discovered this: together, we can save lives and make a world that works for everyone! As champions of the next generations, we intend to reverse the destructive trends society has fostered by “Playing it Forward.”
ArtWavEs (AWE) reflects the Chinese saying, “Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach him to fish, he eats forever.” We’re giving kids healthy meals and living skills to bring themselves out of pain and poverty through whole brain educational experiences that will serve them for a lifetime.
HEALTHY CHILDREN = HEALTHY COMMUNITIES = A HEALTHY PLANET
We are excited about our fall/winter program that includes. . .
• Art service ongoing at KONAWAENA HIGH SCHOOL in classes with Michelle Obregon, Ellen Crocker and myself leading Blessing Banner creation.
• Food service, plant-based education, music, movement and Blessing Banner painting at the Fall October 5th – 9th ECO-ARTS CAMP AT KEALAKEHE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL with a dynamic team of professional and volunteer educators and chefs.
• Our DECEMBER 22nd HOLIDAY ‘OHANA DINNER hosted at Daifuku-ji Temple in Honalo with Chef Stephen Rouelle of UNDER THE BODHI TREE Restaurant bringing his incredible plant-based menu to the table in service to keiki and families of Hawaii Island.
• The Blessing Banner process and exhibit is being requested at three more schools. With your financial support, we can involve more kids in this fun-loving, life-saving effort. We’ll keep you posted!
The world is evolving in the direction we choose. We started Feed the Children with the finding that one in five children go to bed hungry in the U. S. A. For many more, their souls are hungry for exactly what ArtWavEs offers. After three years of hard work, we’re making headway.
Under the direction of amazing people and awesome volunteers, what began as yoga and dance classes for homeless keiki transformed into food service for the indigent and morphed into a platform for WHOLE CHILD HEALTH through plant-based living skills, mindful movement training and silk prayer flag-making.
Our goal of 108 BLESSING BANNERS painted by Big Island kids of all races, ages and from every corner of the island started as a dream to help kids focus on their positive visions and now is a testament to their strength in converting struggle into hope and beauty.
